Our Budding Athlete

Today the Prep School (ages 5 to 12) had their Athletics Day. All the boys competed, individually and for their 'House' in 3 events : running, long jump from a stationery position, and throwing the vortex.

The events were incredibly well run and all parents came along to support.

Joshua got through to the finals in all 3 events and came second in the long jump, second in the vortex and second-equal in the running race - we were SO excited!

It was a great day - and so fantastic to see Joshua so happy, so confident ... and also to see some competitive drive in him! Josh is just going from strength to strength at Scots, it is so wonderful to see.

Swimming Buddies

A full-on day at school plus training for athletics on Friday, swimming after school with Spencer, and then home for over an hour's homework ... would you not think that is enough to make anyone tired ? But oh no, Josh was still sitting up in bed at 9pm colouring in some pictures - oh to have half his energy !

Recycle & Re-use

Mummy was parent-help today on the Years 1-3 trip to the Recycling Plant so along with 34 young boys we all headed off on the bus. The children all took along some 'rubbish' from home and had to work out what could be recycled and where it went. I have to say they run a very professional and seamless operation at the Plant and the talk was fascinating - it is quite a shock to hear about the amount of rubbish we produce and the effects on the environment.
We then took the boys to Carclucci Land which is basically a playground and everything in it has been made of recycled goods. It is truly astounding just how passionate and creative the owner is and what he has put together ... he has even set up a mini golf course and, as you can imagine, all the boys loved it!.

A note from Georgia ...

Forever-thoughtful Georgia who now lives in Auckland did this note for Josh ... these 2 share a most special friendship.

A VERY energetic day !

Spencer came over for a playdate and we had a hugely busy day ... it started off with a simple game of bouncing on the trampoline (although just about every ball we own was 'booted' either over to the park or next door!); then we went for a swim over at the beach and had fun in the waves with Huddy, back to the park for sack races dowh the slide and sliding down the grass bank on sheets of cardboard - and then our annual street barbeque with games of cricket and the frisbee and then a lolly scramble for the kids. We are all .... exhausted !

Happy Birthday Ryan

2 birthday parties in one week, what a social life ! Ryan invited 11 friends to his birthday party today - they had 2 games of laser strike and 2 games of indoor bowling. they had copious quantities of lemonade and endless supply of pizzas - the boys had lots of space to run off energy and all in all, a great combination for very active boys! Josh loved laser strike and became so trigger-happy that he ended up getting the most number of hits against the opposition ... must make a mental note and make sure we are on the same team as Josh next time !

Wild and Crazy Wellington

Wellington was enjoying a lovely calm and sunny day until early evening when, within minutes, we were hit by what some are calling a "mini tornado" that ferociously hit the city and then passed through 20 minutes later. 140+ kilometre per hour winds lashed the city, boats were capsized, roofs torn off and 30 foot tall trees toppled - let alone all the other damage. Fortunately we were at home but, even so, it was rather frightening.
The crazy thing though was 1 hour later when we were driving into town, the harbour was like a milk pond and Josh and I sat in the car and watched a most beautiful rainbow appear and stretch its way across the sky almost as an apology for what had passed through earlier - creepy !
