Mustangs vs Wellington Axemen

Captain of the Day ... Joshua Turnbull (mouth guard in, ready to play!)

We had rugby this morning although we did wonder if the weather would hold. Fortunately it did and we had a great game. Josh really got back into it today ... he has really held back in the last 2 games so it was reassuring to see him step forward more confidently today. Perhaps being Captain of the Day helped!

After-match report from Coach Kevin read ... "Joshua was Captain today and played the first half at Halfback and fearlessly took the ball up several times into the heavy traffic. He was always in the right place to clear the ball, whether from set piece or broken play, and served Charlie well."

Mascot Huddy - we seriously need to get him a bandana in red & black!

Mother's Day Celebration at School

Mother's Day was spread over 2 days this year. All the boys had arrived home last week with a special invitation to their Mums to arrive at school at 1pm on Monday for a Mother-Son interactive 'exercise'. Each class was given something different to 'do' with their Mums, and Joshua's class decided that they would make pikelets with their Mum's. It was so well done - all the tables were set up outside and on each was a small gas-fired burner, pans and ingredients. 4 boys per group with 4 Mum's. Let's just say that we burnt a few of ours but we had a lot of fun and the boys really took charge!

We were then escorted back into the classroom by our sons to look at their work - they had all made us an individual Mother's Day card. Although Mrs Bell had typed them up, the boys had to write down their own message, their own words (some were very funny!).

And then to finish off the afternoon, the Mums socialised over Devonshire Teas whilst the boys had icrecreams in the quad. A truly gorgeous afternoon and it was most special to have Mr Cassie address all the Mums, in front of the boys, and recognise and acknowledge the very special importance we all play in our son's lives.

Just for you Mrs Bell, I made them with my own hands (oh lovely!)

Yummo - these don't taste bad at all (even though Josh declined the jam & cream!)

Happy Mother's Day

Yesterday I could hear whispers as Daddy and Joshua shut themselves in Joshua's room and I could see Joshua sitting up at his desk .... mmm, serious business.
I found out why this morning. Joshua bounded into the bedroom this morning shouting "Happy Mother's Day" and very happily gave me his special home-made card, a Dianna Krall CD which I had been wanting for awhile and some of my favourite perfume (obviously with some input from Daddy).
According to Daddy, the card was written by Joshua without ANY help. Just for the record, I know Joshua knows I am more than a chauffeur, cleaner and cook - fortunately he did redeem himself with the last line !!

A Special Guest

Look who came for dinner! Josh was very happy to see Sigrun (he calls her 'Twinnie'), but at the same time couldn't help but hope Enzo was coming too - sadly he was not. However, Josh loved having Twinnie read stories at bedtime and very proudly showed off his sports medals which he decided to wear to bed!

Rugby Sevens

Today marked the Mustang's first Sevens Tournament for the year and what a great time we had. Trentham Memorial Park was covered in all shades of golden autumn leaves and it was a glorious day with clear blue skies and brilliant sunshine. The Mustangs played three games in all - 7 minutes each side with a 1-minute break in the middle so the going was intense. We won 2 games and lost 1. All Mustangs played really well showing individual determination and supportive team play. It was great to see that they could all lift their pace and adapt to the intensity of the Sevens.

The Sevens team - along with Coaches Kevin, Rob and Daddy ... and Manager Mummy!

Technology

Joshua loves ... is addicted to ... can't get enough of ... technology! I have to say that Mummy struggles with this at times and has to very firmly monitor his time on the screen - and that means the computer, the WII and also the Nintendo as he can literally bounce from one to the next. We now have a no-screen policy during the week and it is a weekend treat (mmm, maybe that is why Josh gets up SO early on Saturday and Sundays!).

With Daddy working in the IT industry, he also enjoys technology and can be quite an ally to Josh at times. Here they are immersed in a game on the Nintendo.

Building Forts

Joshua has ALWAYS loved building forts and hideaways and still delights in re-arranging the lounge furniture along with extra pillows and blankets from downstairs. Saturday morning arrived so he decided that he would build a tent/hut for Huddy. Hudson was such an obliging 'customer' and did what he was told and actually seemed to be very contented inside his hideaway!
