Now down the coast to KAS

After 5 days of pampering, we hired a car and yes, drove on the RIGHT hand side of the road for nearly 3 hours down the stunning coast of Turkey and arrived at the village of Kas - a most stunning little town right on the coast. Its main beach is tiny … less than 10 metres wide but it has spectacular rock shelves, all set up with deckchairs. You can dive and jump off the rocks and then climb back up on iron ladders that descend down into the stunning clean blue-green water. The town is relatively small and all the streets are narrow and cobbled. It is packed full of hotels and restaurants and chairs and tables and music fill the streets – just glorious !

We stayed at a small self-contained apartment overlooking the harbour and spent out days simply down at the local beach or we took a boat across to one of the other beaches. Daddy went diving for a few mornings whilst Mummy and Josh browsed, went canoeing and sea-kayaking, walking and … more swimming.

The Turkish people were fascinated in Josh with his blond hair and blue eyes, and were simply lovely people – very hard working with a high set of values especially around family.

We did a day trip by boat to Kekova, the ‘sunken’ village which is a charming mix of ancient, medieval and modern history making it interesting as well as beautiful.

We visited a number of amphitheatres and were in awe of the work involved in building these and it was mesmerising to imagine Shakespearean plays being done there.

Our days were spent just ‘being’ and lapping up the warmth, sunshine, people, sport and culture of Kas – and we would then arrive back at our room late afternoon in time to get ready to go back down to the village for dinner. The place came alive at night and then the markets opened at 8pm where the hard-working Turkish people tried to sell their wares.

Oh yes, we will definitely be re-visiting Turkey, it is stunningly beautiful !!
