Well I think that Coach Kevin is still smiling at the magnificent tackling debut of the Mustangs today. It has been a long time coming with the Mustangs playing touch since their first game on 17th April, but it was suddenly all worth it when the Mustangs 'tore' into the game right from the whistle.
Josh only played the second half of the game, positioned as Lock. I have to confess that all parents were a little nervous as we watched tackles, scrums and literally pile-ups on the floor (and I am sure all mothers were praying it was not their child on the bottom!). Josh coped incredibly well - he did have one moment which has got to be the by-line of the season (according to the other parents on the side-line who could not contain themselves and had to hide their heads in their hands to stifle their laughter) .... in one of the pileups, obviously someone grabbed Joshua by the seat of his pants and so he called out, rather loudly ... "Mummy, someone just gave me a wedgie in the P_ _ _ _". I think that says it all really ! Let's just say that we simply moved on and got on with the game !
The Mustangs and the Cougars drew 20-each - and all in all, it was an adrenalin pumped morning !
After-match report from Coach Kevin said ... "Joshua Turnbull had a great first game of tackle although only played in the second half. He took the ball forward at every opportunity, and in his usual style was often on the shoulder of the ball carrier. He too knew exactly what to do in the set pieces and where to go and what to do. He also executed some truly perfect tackles".
Josh, Charlie & Sophie 'dancing' across the pitch
Oh dear lord, please don't let that be Josh on the bottom ...
Out of my way cougars !
Way too many 'red' people on the ground !
How about this for getting it right ? Right height, close, arms in the right place, head in the right place - a brilliant tackle !
