After the Curtain Raiser at the Cake-Tin last night, it is now officially the time to hang up the rugby boots for the 2010 season. It has been a great season and certainly a huge learning curve ... we started the season with 6 weeks of ripper rugby and then the balance of the season was spent playing full-tackle. The transition to full-tackle did not come without its challenges. Some boys took to it like a 'duck to water'; Josh certainly preferred to be in the 'wings' and a little away from the full-on scrums; however, he gave tackling a real shot but was a little nervous about being tackled himself. It was certainly clear to see that Joshua was best placed at first 5/8th or a half-back position.
Coach Kevin was amazing and certainly can take the credit for the caring and happy camaraderie within the team. He also made sure that every Mustang felt they were a valued player in the team.
But we are not worrying any more about rugby until next year and Josh will then have a say in what he wants to do. For now, it is time to hang up the boots and get out the tennis and swimming gear. Tennis and Little Nippers Surf Lifesaving are our chosen summer sports - so bring on the sunshine Wellington!
But here are a few shots to remember the rather wet and muddy rugby season we had!
