This evening Scots College put on an Introduction Evening - all parents were greeted by some of the senior boys serving white and red wine, orange juice and platters of finger food. Peter Cassie, Principal of the Prep School, then introduced himself and his teaching team - it was great for us 'new kids on the block' to put faces to names and to also socialise and meet with other parents.
Everyone then went off to their respective son's classrooms where they met with their teacher. In our case it was Mrs Bell who in one respect appears to be quite maternal, caring and nurturing - and on the other hand she is very professional and can be firm and direct and is driven to achieve good results for each and every boy in her class. And, of course, she has many years experience and her knowledge is very reassuring. They do say that the single most important factor determining the quality of the education a child receives is the quality of his teacher - and we feel very blessed with Mrs Bell.
She talked us through Term 1's focus, both academically and socially. Currently the boys are working on the importance of having friends, how to make (and keep) a friend and various ways to help friends and encourage them to work together as a team - something that we feel Joshua will benefit from greatly as he so wants friends. In addition, we talked through the academic curriculum and expectations and we were also delighted to hear of some quite amazing 'fun' days and activities planned (gosh I can't remember my school years offering all this!?!?)
All I can say is that Scots have in store some very exciting opportunities for the boys and offers a wonderful learning environment that has unlimited resources across the full spectrum of education.
The evening was very worthwhile and I left feeling reassured, excited and challenged both for Joshua - and us - bring it on !
