A few days in Rototua

We had such a fun time in Rotorua enroute north that we also stopped off for another few days on our way south. What a playground of things to do .... I can see why it is called the adventure hub of the north island! We spent most of our time on the Luge and also the Zorb.

The Luge is huge fun and we all had our own 3-wheel 'cart' to race down the various tracks - there are 3 separate concrete sealed tracks which wind down through redwood trees - the scenic track is 2km long and a more gentle introduction to the sport; the 1.7km intermediate track is way more exciting with a few thrills added in like a tunnel and some exciting spirals and dips - and then the advanced track which Mummy was very relieved to find that Josh was not tall enough to ride (phew!). Howe ver, that did not stop Daddy sneaking away for a turn !! At the bottom, you then take the chairlift up to the top and race down again .... over and over again .... and again.

And then the Zorb - this is an 11-foot high inflatable sphere which you ride inside. A few feet of air protect you from the ground so that you can ride down the hill safely and at high speed. Daddy and Josh did the Zydro ride - they were both 'thrown' into the globe together along with a couple of litres of water (warm!) and then hurtled down the hill at a speed up to 30km/h. Mummy could hear them yahoo-ing all the way down. Josh loved it so much that he bravely asked if he could have another turn - on his own - down the zig zag track which they say is a cross between a waterfall and a roller coaster ... and he did it and came out laughing (gulp ... he is growing up).
