News Talk at School

At Scots, there are 4 'Houses' - Macarthur, McKelvie, Potatau and Bedding. Each 'House' is allocated one day each week Mon-Fri for morning talk. When it is your 'House' all boys in that House are expected to individually stand up and speak on 'something' to the class. As Joshua is such a visual learner, it always helps if Josh has a prop of some sort that he can refer to.

Mummy recently managed to be given from the new Bunnings home-handyman centre, 15 rugby goal-post kitsets. So Josh and I set about putting ours together. Joshua chose to paint his goal posts black and red to represent Poneke, his own club (but it was quite poignant as red and black are also Christchurch colours). At the recent Rugby Discovery Day, Joshua got all the base boards signed by the Hurricanes, Wellington's premier rugby team.

Well, as you know Daddy is away in England so Mummy donned her cap of "girls can do anything" ... well we managed to paint the posts okay; we also managed to nail the posts together including the cross-post. However, we came a little unstuck with the base board as it was narrower than the post width, so a quick trip around the corner to a builder friend solved all our problems. He managed to make it look very professional by adding a wider base board underneath the signed one (he even re-did one of Mummy's nails!!). So it looked absolutely perfect and Josh was very excited to go to School.

According to Mrs Bell, Josh very happily stood up and talked about the goal-post kits, showed his finished one, and then gifted all the boys a kitset to take home. The boys were thrilled!

Joshua's finished Goal Post - pretty professional huh?
